People sometimes ask me why my family places superior importance on music education over sports. I always answer that my children will be able to practice and perform music their entire lives, not just until their knees give out. Music enriches and nurtures the brain - actually developing intelligence and fine motor skills, attention to detail, and discipline that will serve them all of their lives. Music is a language that is global - thus dissolving language barriers. Music is emotion and culture - thus uniting humanity. But overall, I think Shinichi Suzuki (violinist) sums up why music education is so important - because it will turn you into a fine human being.
"I want—if I can—to get education changed from mere instruction to education in the real sense of the word—education that inculcates, brings out, develops the human potential, based on the growing life of the child. That is why I am devoting my efforts to furthering Talent Education: what a child becomes depends entirely on how he is educated. My prayer is that all children on this globe may become fine human beings, happy people of superior ability, and I am devoting all my energies to making this come about, for I am convinced that all children are born with this potential." - Shinichi Suzuki
